Exhibited: Possibly, David Aspden, Solander Gallery, July, 1975
Literature & references: Reference: Helen Campbell with Eric Riddler, Chronology, in David Aspden: The Colour of Music and Place, Art Gallery of NSW, 2011, p. 81: “ On his return from overseas, after representing Australia in the 1971 Sao Paolo Biennale (alongside Gunter Christmann), Aspden settled with his family in Castle Hill, north west of Sydney, on a semi-rural bush block. His paintings from this period continue the motifs of the Brazil Series — of interlocking leaf forms — though the colours and tones are more muted. Geoffrey de Groen said of the works in the Solander show that Aspden was a ‘magician with a brush’ and that his paintings resemble ‘imaginary typhoons of flowers and dried leaves at the end of summer.” Campbell, op. cit. p. 81
