Bushfires ravaged Tasmania in the January 2019, Australia hottest summer in recorded history. Tasmania is home to some of the State’s oldest and tallest trees which were killed in the fires. Fifteen of Australia’s tallest trees were destroyed by the blazes. One of the forest giants, the Arve Big Tree, a 87m tall Mountain Ash (Eucalyptus regnans), manged to survive the historic bushfires of 1967, but couldn’t withstand the ferocity of the 2019 blazes.
