Born in Norway, Vike served on whaling ships before settling in Perth in 1929. He studied under George Pitt Morison and shared a studio with Herbert McClintock before beginning to exhibit his Perth city-scapes and surrounding landscape paintings in 1938. In 1941 he moved to Melbourne where street-scenes continued as a preferred subject. He often painted with Len Annois and Alan McCulloch. He moved to Adelaide in 1972 and finally back to Perth.
