Literature & references:

Eva Breuer, Gleeson: Paintings and Works on Paper 1930s - 1990s, exhibition catalogue, Eva Breuer Art Dealer, 2003, illus p 39:
"In its warm palette and open composition, After the Rain is typical of many of Gleeson's paintings from the 1990s, which tend to be less claustrophobic than many of the earlier works. There is a tension at play here between the murky foreground with its writhing forms rooted in the earth, and the open sky to which they reach, speaking of aspiration and new possibilities. The fluidity of form is reflected in the preparatory drawing, which is looser in draughtsmanship. The title After the Rain reflects an optimism and freshness that characterises many of these more recent works." (Breuer, op. cit.)
