Literature & references:

Anne Marsh, 'Kristin Headlam: Public Park - a gendered performance', Art and Australia, Vol 36, No 4, 1999, illus p 495 and front cover:
"Headlam camps up the gestures of the subjects of conversationalist paintings in Public Park: Assemblée dans un parc (with reference to Watteau), 1998 (his Assemblée dans un parc, c. 1716-17) [Louvre Museum, Paris]. In Headlam’s painting, the full bridal party is being posed by the photographer around the trunk of a tree in bright Australian sun. The effort to create the perfect moment verges on the ridiculous as all the adults try to entice the child into the correct position. Assemblée dans un parc has all the characteristics of a Disneyland set. It could be a tableau vivant in a late twentieth-century fun park or an exhibit in a wax museum. The reference to eighteenth-century fashion and taste could be a jibe at the master painters of a phallocentric tradition, but Headlam implicates women and a host of ordinary families in her critique.” (Marsh, op. cit. p. 499)

Note:

The painting remained in the artist's house till 2021 when she agreed to include it in the Freeze Frame exhibition listed above.
