Note:

Born in Melbourne in 1941, Dumbrell’s almost sixty year-career began with fine art studies at RMIT University (1959-62) and teaching at Prahran Tech. Dumbrell’s large scale, optical paintings came to prominence in the 1970s along with her involvement in the women’s art movement – as co-founder of the Women’s Art Register and her contribution to the influential Australian interdisciplinary feminist art journal ‘Lip’ (1976-84). She has since become one of Australia’s most respected artists in the field of Op Art and geometric abstraction with her richly coloured, intensely lined canvases that continue to explore optical perception while also evoking her environmental surrounds. She continues to paint in her studios in Euroa, central Victoria, and in Bangkok.
