Brothers Wladislav and Ludwik Dutkiewicz were born in Poland and arrived in Australia in 1949, where they settled in South Australia.  The younger brother, Ludwik, studied at Leopolis Technical College in Lvov (now L'viv, Ukraine) before WWII and worked as a plant illustrator at the Adelaide Botannical Gardens from 1953-62.  In 1953 and 1954 he won the CAS Cornell Prize and in the 1960s he worked on experimental film ('Transfiguration', made with Ian Davidson, is in the collection of MoMA, New York).
