pastel on paper

26.60 x 37.50

titled l.r.; estate stamp l.l.

Provenance: The Estate of Mary Macqueen
Exhibited: Mary Macqueen, Watercolours and Drawings, Bridget McDonnell Gallery, Hampton, 9-25 February, 2012, no 17; Mary Macqueen - Works on Paper, Stella Downer Fine Art, 18 February - 15 March, 2014
Note: The Stony Rises in western Victoria are very evocative of natural rapid landscape change. The chaotic, rocky landscape between Colac and Camperdown on the Western Highway represents barely-weathered lava flows from an eruption at Mt Porndon only 60,000 years ago. Globally, volcanic eruptions can have a big impact on climate. As a result of the ejected particles reducing the sunlight reaching the Earth’s surface, major eruptions can lead to global cooling lasting a couple of years after the event. However volcanoes do not affect the climate through their emissions of carbon dioxide, as these are estimated to be a hundred times smaller than emissions due to human activity. (Climarte)
