Literature & references:

Charles Nodrum, Peter Kaiser - 1918-1995, Geelong Art Gallery, 10 February - 25 March, 2007, see exhibition catalogue for a similar work.
The 1970s saw a major shift in the artist's work which moved away from the tachiste and textured painting of the 50s and 60s into a larger scale.
“Most of the later paintings are stained collaged canvases and mark a dramatic change-both stylistically and thematically. Where the earlier works had focussed on mute material substance using restrained, even sombre tones, in these later works the gaze shifts to the land, the sea, and the sky. This move towards the light, the fugitive and the ethereal brings an equally marked alteration of mood to the lyrical and the jubilant. Whilst very abstracted they retain a clear link with the visible natural world - most of the titles refer to water, clouds, reflections and foliage - and can be seen as celebrations of the artist’s pleasure in both looking and making. From a more formal point of view, in palette and finish they relate to the 1970s work of a younger generation of artists including David Aspden, John Peart, Gunter Christmann and David Rankin.” (Nodrum, op. cit.)

Note:

One of a suite of large works on brown wrapping paper of abstracted landscapes, many featuring reeds and long grasses, painted at Possum Point, where his wife’s family had a property in the high country west of Dandongadale.
