Exhibited: Probably Peter Upward, Gallery A, Melbourne, June 1960
Literature & references: James Gleeson, Painting in Australia since 1945, Art and Australia, Vol 1, No 1, Autumn, 1963, p. 10: Much of what happens to the paint in its projection onto the surface can be regarded as accident. Yet such accidents often reveal more than can be achieved by deliberate intention to reveal. It is only accidental in the sense that not every detail of the effect is the result of conscious intention, though, if Freud is right, they provoke a key to subconscious intentions.
