Note: Richard Dunn left for London in 1966, to study at the Royal College of Art, remaining in Europe until 1977. He visited New York in 1968 and painted NYC#1 on his return to London. NYC#1 is one of three similarly structured works. This painting’s long horizontality creates for a viewer changing spatial relationships, seeking to establish a physical and kinaesthetic connection between a viewer and the work. In this sense it is a component of an installation – composed of the painting, the viewer and the room.
