The Artist

Exhibited:

Artist Profile: Australasian Painters 2007-2017, Orange Regional Gallery, 8 July - 10 September, 2017

Note:

The larger version of this work, exhibited at the Benalla Art Gallery & the Moree Plains Gallery in 2011, and at Charles Nodrum Gallery in 2012, is now in the Commonwealth Bank collection.

A significant distinction: whilst this work reads as an abstracted landscape it was not inspired by or derived directly from the landscape itself (which, at the time of painting the artist had never visited) but, as the title notes, from Namatjira's watercolours of the gorge. In other words, it's not a painting of landscape, it's a painting of a painting. C.N.
