Modern Australian Painting, Charles Nodrum Gallery, 27 May — 17 June, 1995, no. 11 (as ‘Figures in Action’)
see Christopher Heathcote, The Art of Roger Kemp, Macmillan, 2007, p 43-46 for coverage of the late 1930's figure paintings and Patrick McCaughey, Roger Kemp: Cycles and Directions 1935-1975, Monash University Gallery, Melbourne 1978, plates 1-6 for related works
The Ballets Russes toured Australasia in 1936/7 and 1938/9; Roger Kemp was highly impressed and made a pathfinding suite of abstracted expressionist studies, of which this work is an example.
