2016: Dark Arts, 2016
papier mache; acrylic paint; oil pastel on paper; vintage frames;

Provenance: The Artist
Note: The Artist, May 2016:
"Numbers can have a kind of personality as their shapes express bulges, curves and angles. The shapes make interesting structures for pushing medium around on and they become animated as they materialise.
I imagine that the mundane scribbles of an accountant could have a twilight existence, where they can describe beautiful and infinite abstractions. They could become prime, golden, original, perfect, sexy, pre language or futuristic.
2016 is a sculpture of the number 2016 made from papier-mâché. The four numbers are not fixed and the viewer is invited to make their own arrangement for a different artwork and number.
Dark Arts is a collection of drawings of numbers made with black oil pastel on paper. The numbers are singular and defined as empty space surrounded by blackness. They are framed in an assortment of cheap vintage frames installed as a cluster, almost like a clock face."
