Catalogue number: 9

oil on linen

127.00 x 122.00

signed & dated l.r.; titled on reverse; label with title, #696 and #441 on reverse

Provenance:

Rudy Komon Gallery

Note:

In 1948 Underhill left for England, where he remained the rest of his life, occasionally exhibiting in Australian Galleries and Gallery A. In London his career as artist and teacher flourished, earning admiration for his then lively postimpressionist work with a figurative emphasis. He evolved into gestural abstraction by the early 1960s finally returning to a more emphatic, English-infused figuration in the last phase of his career. This work is clearly of his Abstract faze, for a slightly earlier work Moonbi, 1960.
