Catalogue number: 32

Mixed media (sand, paper, timber, canvas on perspex)

106.00 x 181.50

Signed, titled and dated on reverse

Provenance:

Clive Evatt, Hogarth Galleries, Sydney.

Literature & references:

Daniel Thomas and Mervyn Horton, Australian Painters of the 70s, Ure Smith, Sydney, 1975, see p. 38 for another work in the series, Pour effacer le pass, about which the artist commented:

Obviously influenced by Marcel Duchamps the Bride Stripped Bare by her Bachelors, Even, this work continues my interest in collage, texture, and the notion that the multiple elements of the painting, and not simply the surface, are of importance. Certain dogmas of the recent past are rubbed out: the notion that painting must be flat, must have no holes in it and must have its image tied to what it called composition. Rule makers are not artists_ or critics, for that matter.

Peter Pinson, Elwyn Lynn Metaphor and Texture, Craftsman House, 2002, see plates 17a and 17b for related works.
