Since its establishment in 1984, the Charles Nodrum Gallery’s exhibition program embraces a diversity of media and styles - from painting, sculpture & works on paper to graphics and photography; from figurative, geometric, gestural, surrealist & social comment to installation & conceptually based work.
— Brief Introduction
After relocating to Geelong after many years living in Warrandyte, Guy Stuart’s paintings have grown brushier, fuller in their composition, and more literal in their depiction of the landscape. Throughout his 60 year career, the veteran Melbourne painter has been strongly influenced by Japanese art and it remains evident in this new body of work: first, in the calligraphic nature of the lines, second in the colours - inky indigo and cherry blossom pink – and third in the format, where the tall narrow canvases evoke the traditional oriental scroll. Following a successful survey exhibition of works on paper in 2014, the Charles Nodrum Gallery is pleased to present Guy Stuart’s recent oil paintings.
