Monochrome: Empty & Full at the VCA

— Thursday 3rd May 2018

Coalescences Cake 5
A group exhibition of monochrome works, alongside David Batchelor 'Colour is', at the Margaret Lawrence Gallery, Victorian College of the Arts

‘Monochrome art has two origins: the mystical and the concrete. Its evolution in the 20th century illustrates the divide between the spiritual quest for transcendental experience and the desire to emphasise the material presence of the object as concrete reality and not as illusion.’ Barbara Rose

Monochrome: Empty & Full highlights contemporary practices of monochrome painting and sculpture.  Director David Sequeira has selected works by over 40 artists, including Brian Blanchflower, ADS Donaldson, Aldo Iacobelli, David Serisier, Alan Mitelman, John Plapp, Ron Robertson-Swan & Ayako Saito - and many more.

Opening: Thursday 3 May 5.30pm

Exhibition: 4 May – 2 June

Also, on Thursday 3 May is a seminar on Colour at the VCA. Speakers include UK based artist, writer and Academic David Batchelor and VCA staff.
