Sadie Chandler at Shepparton Art Museum
— Wednesday 24th October 2018
During a residency at the Cité Internationale in Paris, ready to visit the painting galleries at Le Louvre to sketch the classics, Sadie unexpectedly found them closed, and so faced instead the sculpture galleries. This new series of wallpaper 'Arcade' developed from these visits.
From 11 August - 24 October, 'Arcade' will cover the Shepparton Art Museum's 12m long Drawing Wall.
This commission follows her installation of 'The weight of images' in ACCA's 2017/18 group exhibition 'Unfinished Business'.
Of her work, Chandler writes:
I’m interested in how images work, how we see them through the inescapable trap of art history. Iconic works of art in museums are already known before we see them in the flesh, so we’re always stuck with embedded memories of them. As an artist, it’s impossible for me to forget all the images that have come before the ones that I make. I’m aware of being trapped but also propelled by these images and histories.
She welcomes commissions to install her wallpaper in both private and public spaces. For more information contact the gallery and visit her website: www.sadiechandler.com
