Vale Lorri Whiting (1927 - 2019)

— Friday 20th September 2019

Born Lorraine Fraser in Melbourne in 1927, Lorri studied sculpture at RMIT before moving to Italy in the early 1950s with her poet husband Bertie Whiting, where they lived for the rest of their lives. From 1959 to 2019 Lorri held over 20 solo exhibitions in Italy, England, America - and in Melbourne, in 2010, at the Charles Nodrum Gallery.
A keen 'yachtie', she would take herself on an annual cruise well into her 80s, and her love of the wind and sea was palpable in much of her abstract collages and paintings.

Since its establishment in 1984, the Charles Nodrum Gallery’s exhibition program embraces a diversity of media and styles - from painting, sculpture & works on paper to graphics and photography; from figurative, geometric, gestural, surrealist & social comment to installation & conceptually based work.
