This series of drawings were imaginary portraits of ancient Mesopotamian and Egyptian monarchs - Sargon, Shalmanezer, etc. They culminated in the suite of large oils on board exhibited in the Helena Rubinstein Travelling Art Scholarship, AGNSW, 1962
