Lynne Boyd lived and worked in Melbourne her entire life, with all her adult years within easy reach of Port Phillip Bay. She began exhibiting her paintings of the Bay in the mid-1980s (at Arden Street Gallery in Melbourne) and variations on this subject remained the core of her practice thereafter. Of the many artists who have confronted this subject, few could match her subtle and sensitive handling of its light - particularly on those grey and misty days when the air itself seems to shimmer and sea and sky seem to melt into a barely differentiated whole. In these works her "atmospherics" combined depictive precision with meteorological accuracy (the hand and brain working with confidence) to produce works which evoke in the viewer a sense of quiet contemplation. The Charles Nodrum Gallery looks forward to presenting a survey exhibition of the artist's work in 2025 to coincide with the publication of a forthcoming monograph with contributions by Ros Hollinrake, Jason Smith, Sheridan Palmer, and others.
